Successful trade show presence: funworld performed well at IMA and ATEI!

Successful trade show presence: funworld performed well at IMA and ATEI!

The first two trade shows of the year — the IMA in Düsseldorf and the ATEI in London — were very positive for funworld. The Austrian entertainment specialist introduced a variety of product innovations at the trade shows and continued to sustainably build on international relationships.

“We are more than satisfied with our performance at IMA and ATEI. We were able to enjoy major interest in our product innovations and attract new customers from the emerging markets of Russian and Romania,” says Josef Öhlinger, CEO funworld ag.

From left to right: Josef Öhlinger (funworld ag CEO) and Thomas Keitz (funworld germany Managing Director) presented numerous product innovations at IMA and ATEI

The trade show highlights

Never before has funworld presented such a large product range at trade shows as it has this year. The touchscreen innovator’s product palette ranges from PHOTO PLAY to sports betting and poker. In the beginning of the last year the entertainment company repositioned itself, and has since that time pursued an ambitious multiple product strategy.

“The new PHOTO PLAY 2009 game update, the innovative PHOTO PLAY RACER PRO II game terminal and the unique POKER Twin-Star poker terminal crystallised as trade show highlights at IMA as well as ATEI,” emphasised Öhlinger.

PHOTO PLAY 2009 fascinated trade show visitors with the touchscreen optimised Orca Slap, Pingu Throw, Icicle Climb und Flamingo Drive Yetisports games. PHOTO PLAY RACER PRO II scored points with the double monitor that is very effective for advertising and the trend setting SSD technology, which guarantees high stability and extreme speeds. POKER Twin-Star also attracted a great deal of curiosity at the trade shows because of providing a unique online game experience, the contemporary design and its two independent game surfaces.

Also garnering major attention at IMA were funworld’s new sports betting solutions BET-Shop and funstation, which were specially developed for the German market. BET-Shop made an impact as a sophisticated online betting shop with an attractive sports betting offer. funstation clearly set itself apart from the usual betting offers, as it is an innovative surfing table with an added value portal, which includes classic Internet surfing as well as exciting sports betting and selected PHOTO PLAY games.

Quite a stir was also caused by the new in the proven betting terminal touch2win II integrated live betting program “X-LIVE” primarily marked by the so called “Zero points betting” that will be available from March 2009. Regardless the time when the customers place the bets on a specific sport event, by the “Zero points betting” only those goals count which are shot after the placement of the bets. This means that upon placing each bet the game score is zeroed out again to 0:0.

In addition to PHOTO PLAY 2009, RACER PRO II and POKER Twin-Star, the new Touch Toy children’s terminal and the Gam-X game terminal developed especially for Italy in cooperation with Microgame made a particular impact on trade show guests. Touch Toy aroused a lot of interest through its educational games and alternative operating possibilities in banks, shopping centres and furniture stores. Gam-X presented a multifaceted game offer including People’s Poker, PHOTO PLAY Skill Games, Scratch Lotteries, betting and bingo and provided a customized entertainment solution for the Italian market.

Promoting the international customer network

funworld utilised the IMA and ATEI, however, to not only present product innovations but also to support and expand international customer relationships. The branch’s two most important trade shows served as the ideal platform for funworld to make new contacts and intensify existing ones.

“IMA and ATEI are the optimal platforms for us to introduce our product innovations and to pursue targeted networking. We were thereby able to push ahead with new projects and deepen existing business relationships. Moreover, new partnerships could be made, as we have for example been successful for Eastern Europe, where we attracted new customers for Russia and Romania”, declares Öhlinger.

How to Save a Life

How to Save a Life

Peter McKay Peter Mckay – Tue May 26, 3:00 am ET

Creators Syndicate – For the past five years, my family has struggled with an aging, smelly, ill-tempered West Highland Terrier named Harry. Harry was an older, decrepit animal when we got him, kind of sluggish and ornery, at times reeking like spoiled lunchmeat. Think of a tiny Abe Vigoda in a little, smelly white fur coat.
I really shouldn't say that "we" struggled to adapt, as it was more my struggle. Harry was fine with the other family members but took an instant dislike to me. He sidled up to my wife and kids whenever he could, but every time I called to him, he rolled his eyes (before Harry, I didn't realize a dog could do that), shook his head and walked away.
In recent years, though, Harry has gotten more and more worn out, until he spends most of his time on the floor without moving. Think of a tiny, smelly white fur coat, with nothing in it. Once in a while I stop and stare, waiting to see if he's still breathing.
So this spring, my wife came up with an idea. (I use the word idea loosely. An idea brings to mind something neat and new, like the invention of the light bulb) Her notion: Why not get a new dog to liven things up?
My reaction to this was no reaction at all. I have learned over the years that when something comes up that I don't want to happen, the best strategy is to agree and then change the subject. I have used this technique to successfully put off installing crown molding in our living room for over 16 years.
This time, however, my wife got in touch with a group of folks who dedicate themselves to finding new homes for used Westies. My wife was convinced: A second, younger dog would give the kids something to play with, and might, just might, put a little life back in Harry. I was skeptical. If Harry understood one word of what we were talking about, he would be, too.
We ended up with a 2-year old Westie I will call "Abe" who'd been found wandering, collarless, in a nearby town and, after the requisite number of days without anyone claiming him, needed a home.
Abe was cute as a button. He was lively, smart and, unlike Harry, did not seem to be burdened with any major defects. We had Abe and Harry meet at a local park, and they seemed to get along fine. It was hard to tell them apart unless you got close enough to sniff.
The first night home, though, we got a surprise. When my daughters and I walked in the door, Abe came tearing across the hall at us, a snarling ball of fur and snapping white teeth. It was all I could do to hold my daughters in front of me like a couple of human shields. They tried to complain, but I couldn't hear anything over my own shrieking.
And Abe managed to terrorize Harry every chance he got. The first few run-ins, Harry put up a fight, but soon it started to look like a mugging on the installment plan: Every time Harry tried to cross the room, Abe was on him like white on rice. When I tried to protect poor old Harry, Abe would turn on me with a deep and surprisingly menacing growl.
By the third day, I wasn't sure who was more scared — me or Harry. Harry spent all his time shivering in his bed, and I was on the couch, curled up with a cold beer, which could be used both medicinally and, in a pinch, as a weapon.
On the fourth day, I noticed Abe on the floor in front of the couch. He looked so cute sitting there. Maybe, just maybe, I'd misjudged this poor little stray. Careful not to surprise him, I leaned down and softly called out his name.
Within a half a second, he was on me, climbing my chest, claws scraping my arms, sharp teeth snapping at rapid-fire velocity, aiming, I realized, at my jugular vein. I'm not really all that good at hand-to-hand combat, and ended up with a few nicks on my neck, and a huge circular bite mark on my jaw before I could pull the possessed furball off me.
That night, I grabbed Harry and confronted my wife. Abe had to go back, I said. Poor Harry, I said, was too scared to leave his bed. My wife sadly agreed. As she went to get the number of the dog people, I turned to Harry.

Disney Princess Talks Emmys and Jennifer Hudson

Disney Princess Talks Emmys and Jennifer Hudson
Marc Malkin Marc Malkin – Tue Jun 16, 6:06 pm ET
Los Angeles (E! Online) – Anika Noni Rose must have wished upon a star, because her dream really came true. Ms. Rose is the starring voice in Disney's upcoming animated flick The Princess and the Frog.
"It's the most thrilling thing," says Rose, the Tony Award winner who you're likely to remember from her work as Lorrell opposite Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé in Dreamgirls. "It's been a dream of mine since I was a little itty-bitty person to be a Disney voice."
It's also a history-making flick, with Disney's first African-American princess…
It must be a pretty intense feeling knowing you're the first African-American princess.
It's pretty amazing. For me, it means even so much more, because I have a nephew who is only 3 years old, and I will be the first princess he sees.
Are you hoping for a White House screening of the movie?
I'm ready! I mean, you look at those two little girls and they are the most beautiful creatures. You want to run up and hug them.
Let's talk about The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. Did you read the books before getting the part of Grace Makutsi?
I had! I had read about three of the books, just randomly someone gave them to me and was like, "I think you'll like these."
What was it like filming in Botswana?
It was fantastic. [Director Anthony Minghella] had us there a lot longer than we needed to be. I was there for two months, but I only shot for 12 days. I was living in a hotel that used to be someone's house. The fact that he allowed me to be there for that amount of time really allowed me to take in what was around me.
You've won a Tony, were part of the Oscar-winning Dreamgirls and now there's Emmy buzz for No. 1 Ladies'. Are you like a good luck charm or something?
I do have to say that I'm very honored that HBO has decided to push it forward for this, because it's such a labor of love. It's nice to have someone standing behind you saying, "Look at this, pay attention to this, we love what they did."
Do you know yet if there's going to be a second season?
We don't know. I've gotten to the point where it doesn't worry me. About four or five years ago, I would have been like, "Ahh," but now I really feel like things don't always work out the way you plan, but they always work out.
Your No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency costar Jill Scott just had a baby, and your Dreamgirls costar Jennifer Hudson is pregnant. Have you offered to babysit for them already?
What is that? [Laughs] Everybody is popping out little ones. I'm just ready to bite a foot and a thigh. I love a baby thigh and foot in front of me so much.
How do you think they'll be as moms?
For a baby to come into a home where they are wanted, and they are wanted before they got there, that's a wonderful thing.
I've been a Jennifer Hudson fan since before Dreamgirls.
It's been a hell of a year for her. I'm happy for her and that her life is moving forward.

Fattest Kid in the World

Seven-year-old Jessica Gaude differs greatly from her pals. With 222 kilograms, she is the fattest child in the world.
She eats 10,000 calories each day in Coca-Colas, 15 hamburgers with fries and several kilograms of chocolate. What she eats in one day some children eat in half a year. Her breakfast consists of white bread, potato chips and two litres of coke. And she wants more.

When she last visited the doctor four years ago she had 110 kilograms. Unfortunately, she can no longer run and instead of walking she drags herself on the floor. Under such bodily weight her bones have already become distorted.

Mother Carolyn gives her daughter whatever the child wants. In the first week after she was born, when the baby cried because of stomach pains, the mother calmed her by feeding her with a bottle because she thought the child was hungry. “I gave her the bottle and she wanted more and more. It was not enough for her and she was constantly hungry”, Jessica’s mother says.....
